Ruia Group Honours Excellence

 

Kolkata: August 23, 2010: For the fifth consecutive year, Ruia Group led by Mr Pawan K Ruia, will be providing financial support to some bright students who have recorded commendable performance at the Board examinations of West Bengal braving enormous economic challenge. These students will receive the support throughout their next level of education including Engineering and Medical and other professional courses.

Through the past 5 years, 57 students have received such support. We proudly recall that Mr Anshunman Ponda who in 2008 secured admission in Massachusetts Institute of Technology, US, had been a recipient of this grant in his Higher Secondary level. We provided him financial support for his studies up to class XII. Mr Subhankar Roychowdhury and Mr Suvendu Chattopadhyay who ranked first and second in Higher Secondary Examinations in 2006 have also been supported in this scheme. Suvendu is still receiving then assistance in his final year of medical studies, while Subhankar has completed a course in Civil Engineering from Jadavpur University this year and stood first in his stream.

Ruia Group also extends ‘Chairman’s Incentive” in the fields of education, sports, performing arts and visual arts to the children of its employees. This morning 78 students, all children of Dunlop and Jessop employees, have received this one-time support of Rs 5100 each.

In addition to these students, three special incentives are being given this year.

India’s most promising athlete Ms Sushmita Singha Roy has received a one-time-assistance for the different sets of kits and gears necessary for her events in the ensuing Commonwealth Games and Asian Games. The assistance of Rs 350,000 also covers the cost of nutritional supplement that she immediately needs.

Innovative theatre-worker Mr Anshuman Das has received Rs 100,000 for his commendable endeavour in using theatre as a useful means of developing and communicating important social messages.

Student of a doctoral programme in Literature and cultural studies in the University of Heidelberg, Germany, Ms Sukla Chatterjee has been encouraged with Rs 100,000 for pursuing the history of British India from a third country.
