AUGUST 23, 2010: This is for the fifth year, RUIA HOSPITAL & EDUCATIONAL RESEARCH INSTITUTION, a Trust run by Ruia Group, Kolkata, has come forward to provide financial support to 28 budding citizens of tomorrow’s India. These economically challenged students have recorded meritorious performance at the Board examinations of West Bengal.

As a part of Corporate Social Responsibility activities of Ruia Group, RUIA HOSPITAL & EDUCATIONAL RESEARCH INSTITUTION has been extending financial support to such students for completing their next level of studies including Engineering and Medical for the total course period they require.For the students who pass Secondary level are given scholarships for two years while for the students who pass Higher Secondary level are provided with three (for hons students)/ four(for Engineering students) / five (for Medical students) years’ scholarships.

Since 2006 till this year, these scholarships have been provided to 57 such meritorious but economically handicapped students. We are glad to inform that Anshunman Ponda who had proved his merit to be admitted in MIT, US, in 2008 was a scholar of us. We provided him financial support for his studies up to class XII. Subhankar Roychowdhury and Suvendu Chattopadhyay who ranked first and second in HS Exam in 2006 hail from economically downtrodden family and are also our scholars. Suvendu is still receiving financial support for his final year’s medical studies while Subhankar Roychowdhury has completed his studies in Civil Engineering from Jadavpur University this year and stood first in his stream. Now he is doing post graduation in Structural Engineering in Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore.

Ruia Group under the aegis of Chairman Mr Pawan Kumar Ruia has been extending financial support in various forms to the children of the Group workers and employees as a part of Chairman’s Incentive Scheme. Every year nearly 100 such children are awarded to honour their merit in education, sports, performing art and visual art. This year also 78 such students have been honoured by Chairman’s incentive to ease their next step of studies.

In addition to these students, India’s most promising heptathlete Ms Sushmita Singha Roy has been given a one-time-assistance for the different sets of kits and gears necessary for her events in the ensuing Commonwealth Games and Asian Games. The assistance will also cover the cost of nutritional supplement that she’ll need immediately.

Earlier in the morning 78 children of Jessop & Co and Dunlop India Ltd were given Chairman’s Incentive for the meritorious result in Board Examinations.

Fr Felix Raj, Principal, St Xavier’s College, Calcutta, Mr Amal Mukhopadhyay, former Principal, Presidency College, Kolkata and Mr Pawan K Ruia, Chairman, Ruia Group, handed over the incentives to the recipients.

With an eye to broader social commitment, Ruia Group also provides medical benefits to the economically downtrodden people through its Free Health Clinics.
