SAHAGANJ INDUCTS 309 MORE WORKERS TO BOOST PRODUCTION

Kolkata, 02 July 2007: With the first phase of refurbishment completed, the Sahaganj plant of Dunlop India Ltd is geared to produce 50 tonnes of tyres a day regularly from this week. To achieve the production target, 309 workers have been further inducted in the last week taking the total number of permanent workers currently engaged in the plant to 929. Besides them, 68 management staffs of Dunlop India Ltd are posted at Sahaganj.

It may be recalled that while initiating the process of reopening the Sahaganj plant after a closure of almost seven years, Dunlop management had entered into an agreement with the workers’ unions to absorb a total of 1179 workers employed by the erstwhile management for running the plant in full capacity.

In a message from abroad Mr Pawan Kumar Ruia, Chairman, Dunlop India Ltd thanked all concerned for making the plant ready for a higher level of production and said: “Tyres produced at the Sahaganj plant have been receiving encouraging response from the market. Unforeseen hindrances however, protracted the process of refurbishment. Now with the mission thoroughly accomplished, Dunlop has consolidated its position as a cost-effective producer of high-quality tyres for commercial and farm vehicles. The product range has already evinced significant interest from the retailers in the replacement segment all over the country. Dunlop’s marketing team is in continuous touch with the state transport corporations and OEMs as well.”

Mr Ruia was particularly appreciative of the co-operation extended by the workers at Sahaganj. “We share our long term vision at the shop-floor level and enjoy the best of industrial relations at Sahaganj. The workers have trust and confidence in the seriousness of our intent,” he said.
